so ive had the nc30 parked for a few months now sorting a few bits out during the cold snap and now that she is back together doesnt want to start. just runs the battery down and the occasional backfire and splutter. was running fine before it was parked. any thoughts as im hoping the carbs dont need to come off as ive heard they are a pain.

Hi, Have you charged your battery to full?
I usually jump mine from the car, if i think it is going to be hard to start, saves the battery a bit
You could try turning the petrol to OFF,
take the top off the air box, and remove the filter,
Turn the bike over and spray a little carb cleaner into the trumpets, not to much but enough to get it sucked into each of the carbs.
leave it for a while put teh air box back on, and try to start.
And use the car battery if you can.
I am sure there are other ways (probably quicker and easier )

Mine wouldn't start either after being laid up, which turned out to be a fuelling problem (fuel line was folded over and not letting fuel through and unfortunately had to get the carbs out to replace the fuel line). What started as hopefully being a quick and easy fix to get it started, turned into a proper service. Carbs out, stripped, cleaned and rejetted, new oil and filter, new air filter, new plugs, fresh fluids, fresh petrol and charged battery. Once the carbs had filled with petrol she started and now doesn't miss a beat.
I didn't want to take the carbs out as heard they are a lot of hassle, but it's easier than you think (if I can do it anyone can). Made sense to do all the work at the same time cos I didn't want to do it all over again.
Follow Cammos guide (viewtopic.php?f=24&t=14524) if you're going to do it and if you're like me, the feeling you get when it starts up and you've done the work yourself is worth it.

Someone will be along shortly to give you better advice than me, but I wanted to give it a go and I'm glad I did.
