hi guys
i just started work on my nc35 again now i have a few problems
1 my temp gauge doesnt seem to be working ( does not move that little bit when u turn it on)
also how do i find out if my waterpump is working?
when i start that bike up with out the radiator cap on (when cold) and rev the engine the water doesnt seem to go down .
any ideas|?

you mentioned you are checking the radiator while cold, i believe the thermostat wouldn't be up to temp to let water be circulating. sorry i can't really be any help.

Well i did leave the bike to warm up and still didn't move

Do you have a multimeter?

You'll need one to check the temp gauge.

And you'll be able to tell when the thermostat is open when the fans start running.

Well I know my gauge is working coz when I grounded the wire from the thermostat the gauge went to hot so it's not the gauge or wiring
I do remember the fan being on when I left the bike running for some time
So my guest is that the thermostat is stuck and maybe the pump is gone.
I have ordered new seals for both the thermostat housing and water pump but I will check the thermostat 1st.
Shame i don't have a spare thermostat but I do have a spare pump on my spare engine :)

You could try running the bike with out the thermostat, the pump will pump water round the engine from start, so will take longer to warm up, but i run this on my track bike and have had no problems

For the cost of a new thermostat and gasket, I've personally never tested a thermostat.
I just replace them.

Yer should had asked David silver spares about a new thermostat when I was ordering the gaskets. Will give them a call Monday and c if they can add it to my order to save on postage lol

How much is a new water pump?
It maybe cheap enough to just replace.

And do you know what the water pump is made of?
I'm a car mechanic, and knowing that a pump is made of metal, can sometimes help rule out the possibility that it has shat itself. Whereas if it's plastic, then there is always a chance the impeller has broken into pieces.

I don't know about water pumps on a bike, but are they belt or chain driven?
As per my previous paragraph, generally if the impeller is metal the only thing that can go wrong is the seal stopping coolant from pissing out from the impeller side out towards the sprocket... and onto your beautiful driveway :)
