Dead tacho

Hey guys

In addition to the problem that I described in this thread viewtopic.php?f=28&t=23485 (starting fine, good idling, clean revving but cuts out after a few minutes and won't start again for a while), my NC23 also has a dead tachometer.

I searched this site for tacho problems and a few guys in the V4 section were saying something like it's a sign of an electrical issue? I've never had a faulty tacho on a bike so I don't know much about how they work.

Could the problems be connected? Is this a further ign of a bad reg/rec and/or battery as people were saying in my previous thread?

Im sure the '23 has a cable-driven tacho, so wouldnt be electrical? Check the end fittings are secure, also the cable hasnt broken?

I thought it was the speedo that is cable driven, not the tacho? AFAIK, the tacho is an electronic pulse signal, least ways it looks that way on my 24...

Yes tacho is electronic. Have you checked the connections?

The rev counter is very sensitive to voltage fluctuations. Check the battery voltage to ensure you aren't having charging system issues.

Turned out that the battery was fried, and the regulator dodgy. I've replaced both but I guess the tacho got burned out by the bad reg/rec.
