Are they the same? I've been offered a 1983 VFR400 (I presume it will be an NC21?) fuel tank for next to nowt but will it fit an NC24? This one doesn't have the top exit breather though :?:

Any other tanks that will fit the NC24 frame?

The VFR's didn't start till 1985.. That'll be an 1983 VF400. (unless it has been really registered wrong)

It uses chain driven cams and is completely different, the tank won't fit either.

The NC21 tank will fit though as the NC21 and 24 share the same frame.

The early VF's suffered reliability issues and cam wear in the larger cc bikes (750's) not sure how the 400's held up, never had one.

AFAIK the 400's weren't affected by the oil control issues of the bigger capacity VF's.

The 400's were generally reliable, I still see a few around now and then. I know a fellow who has covered over 100,000 km's on the original engine. :o
