Repair/Replace Gear Shifter?

I dropped bike while cleaning it :(
Tried to bend shifter back and it snapped right next to the foot piece.
Some fool ass mechanic I had dropped it before then bent it back (after I insisted) so it was already weakened.
Can I get it welded back together or do I need to find a replacement?

From the right side, I moved it forward and thought the kick stand wasn't touching the ground when i pushed it forward, but kick stand moved up, then i tried to plonk it back on the kick stand and it kept going and I was like "noooooo" pulled it as much as I could to slow the fall, but eventually had to let it drop.
Bent the gear shifter and scratched the ferrings a bit.

Bad design I reckon, gear shifters should really have a little guard. I suppose its a weight issue.

Have you got a photo of it? It may be repairable, it may not be - all depends on where the break is and how clean it is.

It looks fairly clean. You may be able to chemical weld it and put a reinforcing plate along the back with a couple of machine screws tapped in. I wouldn't guarantee how long it would last though. I'd personally scour eBay for a replacement.

You might be able to do a temporary repair with a clamp on peg, they are like mini G-clamps. Similar to this only smaller

Yeah if I hack it I'll just lose the foot piece and drill 2-3 holes in the shifter arm, and bolt an aluminium plate to it, then put a bolt through as the shifter foot, and put the rubber thing on it.
It won't look so pretty.

How do you actually get the shifter off the bike?
Its attached to some kind of ball joint?

If I could get the shifter off, and get the rubber thing off, I could give melting it together a go :)
I've got a LPG blowtorch I've melted pure aluminium with before, dunno about this alloy.
Would be tricky, I wouldn't do it.

Undo the hex bolt and pull - hard. The shifter is on a splined shaft.

It sounds easier to just drill the standard shift rod out of the joint (it's 1 piece as standard) and fit some new rose joints and a new shift rod. Not difficult.
