dont do many miles so longevity is not that important

Your right.... Its been done to death a million times but the stickiest tyres on a 400 would be racing slicks :)

El Stickarado is Bridgestone on either BT090 (stickiest but flatten off quick), or BT016 (multicompound, top tyre!)
For more choice of modern rubber fit a 17" rear wheel from a NC35.

Taken from a post a few months back......

I have found the 090's to give great feedback esp in real word condition and they warm up well even in cold winter conditions.. The Alpha 10's have a "massive" amount of grip on the track but lack the feed back the 090's have and I find don't warm up as well as the Bridgestone's.. Dont bother with any of the supersport tyres (ZR) rated as this is over kill on a small 400cc machine and they will not really get up to temperature due to the lower power going through the tyre..

This will end up so expensive as it's not just a straight wheel swap you also need to sort the ride height due to the smaller wheel so also budget in a shock replacement.. To be honest why bother when there are great tyres made in the 18", you can even get Bridgestone full slicks and racing wets's if using on track
