Hi peeps,

as the thread shows I am after advice on replacing the clutch cable and also the levers, both clutch and brake.
I would like to know which is the best cable to go for, I see there are a few options for me but has anyone had trouble or good experience with the after market types? Do you recommend DSS or Rick O perhaps?

I will be replacing both levers to the short cnc version too so this might effect the decision.

best cable is the genuine honda one, and there only a few bob, under £15 notes bruv,

as for the levers you know my thoughts the badboys i got are great as you have seen,

on the genuine honda clutch cable

The levers are down to taste, i personally think the standard levers are best for real world use but the after market levers look so much better.

The levers make no difference to cable.

Ive got a pair of titax levers on my nc30 & tbh, they look great but thats about it, i would rather be using the standard levers, so next i shall be trying the tyga levers.

My mate has those chinese cnc'd levers on his rc51 & has done for a year or so now, apart from loosing 1 bolt, he says they're pretty good for the money.

The advantage of after-market levers is that they are adjustable. If you like to ride with two fingers on the levers the after-market levers can be set closer to the bars. It's more comfortable and, arguably, safer too.

The major motorcycle companies, guided by profit maximization, have refined their manufacturing process to the extent that they offer standard levers, and they don't supply adjustable levers, even as an option. Given the profit calculus, aka. "We will only manufacture a part that contributes a profit above X%", one can speculate that if after-market levers offer a notional profit of between forty and sixty percent, what profit are the likes of Honda making with their "standard parts only" policy? By extension, imagine the astonishing profitability of the millions of 100cc & 125cc bikes seen all over South-East Asia, based on standardised parts designed more than twenty years ago.

What's even more astonishing is that motorcyclists are such undemanding customers. Even when it comes to equipment which might improve rider safety. It wouldn't be too much to ask for adjustable levers when buying a new bike. Even bicycles have adjustable levers.

Much of the above is irrelevant to our beloved 400cc Grey Bikes. You could cut down the existing levers. And thread a 5mm bolt into the side of the perch to make them adjustable. Or, maybe, it's the finish that's the problem.

I have coughed out so much money this month I have started hiding the bank statements from the wife, however I am still going to get the levers off fleabay and tell her I have a credit card problem like that Stacey bird off of Eastenders
