I know my 24 is running a bit out of kilter at the moment, I need to balance the carbs and sort out the fuelling.

I know the fuel tank capacity is 16 litres but how much of this is reserve? I managed 108km (67 miles!) before I had to switch to reserve If I estimate reserve capacity at 4.5 litres, that only gives me an mpg of 26.5

Can anyone give me a defined tank and reserve capacity? What mpg are you all getting?

Reserve is 2 litres.

Tank capaticy is 15 litres including reserve.

I get 250km on a full tank to reserve and that isn't hanging about.

Thats about 155 miles...

Even so.. it shouldn't use that much fuel.... using that much fuel it should ride like shit unless its leaking from the tank / a pipe to the carbs and isn't affecting fuelling.

I got 45miles to a tank once but that was becuase the jets in two of the carbs had fallen out of the jet holders, the float valves wern't sealing so fuel was pissing into the carbs and it ran like total crap.. it was near unrideable and the exhust was covered in soot.

I took the zxr upto scotland in the summer, flat out in the quieter parts of the M6 at 5am and it was still averaging 100 miles to a tank... with panniers and gear..

Just got 142km to completely dry. Managed to get 15 litres bang on back in. She's a bitch to push

Anyway, jets are standard, pilot screws are 2 turns out. I know carbs need balancing but she's ok mid-range, its just idle that's a bit unsteady (often stalling) and a bit of hesitancy up around 10-13k rpm.

If balancing doesn't sort out the problem, I've got a new air filter on the way (should be here in a day or two) and I'll invest in a new set of jets after Christmas.

Balancing the carbs will only improve idle smoothness, it wont' make any noticeable difference to fuel consumption.

Using that much fuel should make the bike run like arse though.

88 miles is piss poor for an NC24.

I don't change gear until it hits the rev-limiter and I still get way over 100.

You don't have a leak somewhere do you? Or somebody hasn't put in huge jets?

Is there a lot of soot on the exhaust?

No leaks. Jets may be worn, or I may have managed to bore them out when I cleaned them No soot, just the occasional flame or two

I got 111miles out of mine(NC30) before I had to turn reserve on but I was riding it like I nun.
