I need to put in some new exhaust studs but I have a few questions:

1. Which way round do the studs go, longer thread into the head?
2. How do you tighen them into the head, by hand it will only go round a few times and I dont want to put any force on it in case I damage the head.

which studs is it? front or rear they are different lenghts can look and which end for you tomorow
, i had to run a tap down one of my rear ones very carfully to clean the thread lock out of the hole before it would screw in by hand, jut be careful not to cross thread it.

It's for the front ones so nice and easy to get to

from what i remember on my 24 after i had the stud i snapped removed (was a tad heavy handed removing a down pipe) its the shorter thread into the block seemed odd to me but can always cheack that with neosophist hes the resident 24 expert on here

Which studs do you have?

92900060320E are for the Front (6 x 32)

92900060200E are for the Rear (6 x 20)

Off hand I thought the thread was equal lengths, but this may be the rears.. been a while since i've had to take one out.

If they are not i'd imagine the shorter end is where you put the NUT onto, with the longer thread going into the cylinder head.

Otherwise you'd have too much thread for the nut, which doesn't go on that far..

I wouldn't disagree with Neo but, you have to remember that they have those really thick alloy collars on the front headers, so it might be that the longer part goes to the 'nut end'?

Yep, A picture of the stuff would be good.

If the shaft part is longer then yea. However I wouldn't imagine Honda having a load of spare thread that could get chewed up by the collar.. but then again, you never know :-)

On mine there's about 18mm thread on the front headers, the thick collar and then capped nuts if that helps?

Thank guys for the help. I think measureing the depth of the hole and the nut the longer thread goes into the head as its roughly the same as the depth of the hole. The other way round there would be too much thread for the nut, as said.
