Hey all,

I introduced myself a few months back while I was looking for an '89 NC30 in New Zealand. After 4 months of waiting, I finally got one!

So, first question is: Is it possible to modify the stock rearsets for reverse pattern shift? I had a search but couldn't find anything on it. Is it a common thing or do most people jump to aftermarket rearsets if they want a reverse shift pattern?

Nice find!

No need to modify the rearsets for race pattern. Just take the linkage arm off the shaft, spin it 180 degrees and re-fit. Jobs a gooden

That's what I was thinking/hoping! I wasn't sure if the shift rod was going to be long enough and haven't been able to get out to the garage today to play

Yep, exactly. It makes it much easier to change up mid-corner and also up-shifting down the straights. My other race bike is set-up like that it and swapping between the 2 bikes just does my head in!

i remember riding a monkey bike and it was reverse gear which did my nut in.

Yes! If you ride other bikes with standard shift, it's very easy to change down by accident = bent valves and pistons exiting where they shouldn't

You'd be surprised it's something you need to try for your self, personally I can swap between the two without batting a eye and have never once hit a wrong gear because of it road or track, where as my friend cannot physically ride a bike unless it's race shift as that's what he uses on track and it fu*ks his head up trying to ride anything else even slowly just round the block.

My old (road legal) trail bike was standard and I could swap between that and the 675 without any hassles. Being a physically different shaped bike, seemed to help.

I am having hassles with the NC30 though as it is much closer to 675 in riding style. Not so much going up, more changing up gear (instead of down) going into corners. At least I'm not going to over rev the engine that way!

In my experience most racers run this gear pattern. Makes for faster gear changes when acccelerating, I've adopted it and wouldn't go back.
It's simple enough, like has been said turn the knuckle round through 180 degrees.
Makes me laugh sometimes on ebay when a seller describes his bike as having a "racing gearbox" when in reality some owner has undone the 10mm bolt and changed the knuckle round.
