nc30 flooded

Hi.
Could you please help me.
I have just done a stupped thing I have just flooded the bike.
It started but lumpy so I have just left it alone.
What should I do. Should I just leave it for a while?

Hi, its a vfr400 nc30 1990 g-reg.
I started it as normal with chock & just press the butten & I turned the chock off to soon started it again but I touched the throttle & then I flooded it. only had the bike a few weeks just getting use ti it. Hope this helps.

Mine does this, just leave it a while.

I learnt with mine, regardless of the weather, full choke, no throttle, start it, let it clear itself to around 3k, then shut the choke off, catch it on the throttle WITH THE CHOKE OFF, blip it a few times gently and it should idle around 1k.
It only needs choke for about 30 seconds.

When I first got it I was always flooding it. I also learnt that in the summer, if I ride to work at 8am, when I start it at 6pm it needs no choke at all. Learnt the hard way on that as well. :whistle:

As above full choke NO THROTTLE! never!!

But I would leave the choke on full until the temp needle goes past blue into 70degrees then slowly reduce it! Then blip the throttle and get a nice steady idle!

If this doesn't work or it won't start remove the back two spark plugs and give them a good wipe/clean and check the gaps and put them back in and try again as above.

If you flood it again by touching the throttle you will kill the spark plugs and at 32quid a set ot ain't cheap! On the plus side you will never touch the throttle again when starting!!

Don't know why I did it. I just hope the plugs are ok not that good at with mechanics. I will leave it untill tomo let you know how I get on.

Don't panic, I'm sure the plugs will be fine, if after 4-5 attempt tomorrow it doesn't catch then stop and remove the back plugs, any problems pm me I'm around all day tomorrow.

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but mine won't stay on choke for more than a minute or 2 before it chokes up, floods and stalls. Let alone staying on until 70 degs?

Is mine running rich? I have an idea it was robbed of cool bits before I got it, The condition of the exhaust clamps suggested an end can was swapped off. So may have been rejetted to suit and now it has a standard can?

All of mine will stay on the choke for a good 3-4mins! By that time the needle should be rising towards blue and 70degrees.

When I start mine with the choke it's steady at 5k and I can reduce it to 4k 3k and so on just by reducing the choke . When the carbs are set properly the choke is exact!

If it's not your only mode of transport take the carbs off and follow Cammos guide to carb settings, check the carb rubbers for condition and tightness. At least you will know that the carbs are set correctly for the mods you have on the bike!
