Hi All, an ex FZR400 owner - now back on here as I'm collecting an 86 CBR400RG at the end of this week. I see lots of posts on the net about the NC23 etc - however, most excluding specific reference to the Aero. Any chance someone could give me a quick paragraph as to what I've bought? - i.e. typical popular mods, is the same as any other models in relation to cross over with OE parts etc. I've downloaded the HRC manual on here for the 87 Aero (are they identical in relation to that manual?). Anything and everything appreciated so I can read relevant threads and make relevant searches online and for upgraded parts etc?

For reference, it has wheels with more than 3 spokes, so I'm guessing it's already had a rolling gear swap with later 23 or a 29.

Later NC23's had three spokes so I imagine they are off an NC29 if they are six spoke?

They are 6 spoke front and back so I guess the prior owner did a swap (was that lots of work or are they pretty much a drop in?).

this is the jellymould bike.. Not sure what mods as it is not a supersports like the proper nc23

Thanks all - it was 440 with 12 months MOT, Gilles rearsets, full stainless system, braided hoses, engine rebuild, new wheel bearings, new hagon shock etc - I couldn't resist the extra parts despite the older model. Looking forward to taking it for a spin at the weekend. A mate thinks the wheels could be from a jelly mould 600! - I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Hi guys new gezzer ere , i also have a cbr400 aero that was given to me for nowt , yep i know its not a cutting edge bike but in my years of riding i gotten used to not having the best and basically turning shit into gold as such lol,


i have a few questions if anyone could answer that would be great ,

can i interchange certain things like down pipes etc of the later nc23,nc29s , i understand that if i can there will most likely be some modifications needed but this doesn't bother me , things im mainly looking at are , pipes , and a rear swing arm , the banana type one not the gull arm ? , im an newbie really to the 400 market , i know my 2 strokes well hut the 400 is a Grey area lol , that's why im here i know you guys are legends for knowledge and i hop to learn some good tricks and tips of ya.

I believe the pipes hang lower on later models so would cutting and welding to ensure they provide enough clearance when fitted to the Aero. Mine has a Predator system fitted from a later 400 but had to have a bit cut out for the same reason.

No sure about the swing arms though.

If anyone could tell me how to get the seat off so I can charge the battery that would be a start! - I tried pushing the key into the ignition and turning it anti clock-wise, but this doesn't seem to release anything.

Ive decided to pull my aero apart , its getting a ground up rebuild my was given to me but it was in a state it had been sat in someones garden for over 7 years doing nothing, Ive already some cbr 400 plastics for it so im chuffed about that , won a tri arm swing arm , watching some forks right now , it should be fun , pictures to come soon , but basically would like to know more about this model

one other question i have what is the standard size of the carbs fitted to this model and do the aero and later cbr nc 23 share the same motor if not does that mean i could steal a cam and other certain parts from a later 23 to allow mine to poke some grunt out

I don't know much about the Aero but I doubt there are any shared parts. That's not to say you can't make parts fit.
