3 questions-I'm trying to remove the rear manifold and i'm well.....stuck! I have the 2 left side(looking from the rear wheel) nuts off at the engine and one on the right, but the one on the far right i cannot get to-theres a gap inbetween the crankcase and the frame for a ratchet spanner but theres not enough room to get a click going on it!.I've tried allsorts of sockets with flexible adapters etc- i cannot get a grip on it.


1-Any ideas?
Second major problem is the thread on the top bolt/stud that meets the 2 downpipes is shredded and thats the reason i'm replacing/repairing it! I'm gonna try a die with it but i think its fooked!-
2-Are these welded in or are they easily removed?

Hi Rob,

1) i use a standard short socket with 2No. nuckles, then a long extension bar to get past the frame/manifold joint, it is a real bit*h but it can be done.

2) yes sadly they are welded, and i reckon it would be just as easy to replace it, 30 and 35 ones are the same.

3) I am pretty sure i have taken mine off or at least put it on with the rear shock in place, but if you are laying the bike up over winter then why not take teh shock out and re-grease the bearings and make life a little easier

Thanks mate- the knuckle i have is fairly large now that i think of it! I'll pop into halfords n see if theyv a smallish one and try that! The rear shock hmmm never removed one before, actually just started a thread askin about how to do it! I've a minty shock to replace my corroded one! Thats handy that the nc30 part is the same- i'll have a look on ebay again!

yep rear shock off then its a 5 min job to swop the manifold.
you will need an abba stand to get the shock off ideally, or make sure you have a mate there to help if bodging with axle stands and the like.
with the rear wheel off the floor and wheel removed, start removing all shock linkage nuts and remove the dogbone linkage and the tri point knuckle.
then one bolt at the top and the shock will drop making it easy to pull out. takes 5 mins really.
then the manifold is easy to get at but you will need a 1/4 inch ratchet set and flexi joint. the halfords pro range are very good if you dont have one

it justabout passes the shock but i wouldn't recommend it! Shock doesn't sound too bad then CRM? Had a lad telling me i needed to prop up the subframe on a ladder etc etc?

Yes you will be fine getting the shock out if you have an ABBA stand. If you have a rear paddock stand you will need to support the rear of the bike, or prop the bike up under the engine so you take teh weight of teh rear shock/wheel.
