oh and about back firing, its the probally running rich, and when the HOT Waste Exhaust gases hit the COLD AIR its re ignites and burns the rest of the hydrocarbons and flamable vapours.

Most likely theres an air-leak into the exhaust which is sucking in air on the over-run and igniting in the exhaust.

Are all the joins still in one piece?

As Rick has said, it could be over-rich too, although my 24 was backfiring terrible on the over-run when one of my rear-headers came loose
