I'm sure this might have been asked many times, but I can't find the posts ...
Planning to stop ridding the bike over winter (I'm getting old ) and use my favourite winter transportation The Bus...

So this winter, the bike will get a complete strip down and serious clean.
If I get myself an abba stand, which I hear is a must, how easy/difficult is to remove the engine on your own?
Is there a post here with some pictures, or a website link I can check please?

If you keep the bike stable (which is what the Abba stand is for) then you can put something under the engine to support it. Then, when all the fixings are removed, you can lift the frame over the engine.

Because I was doing serious work on my bike (an NC21) I took off the front downpipes and cut off the rotten collector 'cos I was replacing it. Then I supported the bike by sitting the engine's sump on a thick board, supported by two breeze blocks.
This kept the bike fairly stable and raised the front wheel off the ground... Then I took the front wheel and forks off, for later servicing and 'cos they're heavy.

I removed all the fastenings and lifted the frame off the engine from the front; I had to take the thermostat housing off 'cos it fouled the right downtube. Be careful! The engine will lurch forwards when it's clear of the frame.

I'm not Little Miss Strong and I did it all by myself; it doesn't take long but it's a serious effort. Get someone to help with the lifting if you can.

Getting the engine out can be done on your own, but it is a heavy lump, and not easy to shift about. What do you plan to do to the engine? are you doing anything else while you have the bike apart?
Getting the engine out is pretty much a total strip of the bike, and a very very good way to get to know all the parts
I would start by removing everything that you can fairings, tank, carbs, wheels, exhaust, footrests.

I do the same rest the engine on something and lift the frame off it.

forks and rear shock rebuilt

single seat tail
engine tidy up(clean, paint), valves clearance, carb tuning (maybe also modded)
serious clean up of the frame/swing arm.
Koso DB-02R gauges
WR'S Rear Sets
Full Tyga exhaust (not sure which one yet as in single or double cans, but not the Maggot....)
super light battery (can't remember the name, I think they come from a German website)
and other small little bits as I go along

Nothing is set in stone so will see how it goes

maybe not in that colour, but the nose/seat does it for me
