Hi all,
I'm nearly at the end of restoring my NC30 now and have a problem with the carbs. Everythings been stripped and cleaned on the carbs,I've rejetted to suit UK spec according to the jetting guide on the site, re drilled the slides and fitted 1mm washers on the needles. The engine just seems really flat, almost as though it's retarded on the ignition. Does anyone know of a mobile mechanic who could come out to look at the bike as its got no mot,tax or chain and sprockets on yet so can't really take it anywhere? I'm in Bolton, lancs if someone can help i'd be very grateful.

Oh i see what you mean, no you havent screwed the slides up. What youve done to the carbs shouldnt have done any harm, what jets did you use? You could really do with riding it to get a proper idea of how its running.

Thank god for that. I was knocking a right panic up for a while. I phoned Rick Oliver and spoke to him before i ordered the jets off him. Off the top of my head i think i've got 118 front and 122 rears. He said i should be able to use the standard 0.5mm washers on the needles, but i put 1mm on as per the thread on this site.

Sounds spot on, you did remove the standard 0.5 washers before fitting the 1mm washers didnt you?

I did matey. Is it worth trying the 0.5mm washers, or should i just take the bike to somewhere like Fastline in Preston for balancing?

Id try anything before taking my bike there, probably even launch it off a cliff first
If your sure you havent messed anything else up while doing the mods then try the 0.5 washer but my guess is you've upset something else as the mods you've done wont make the bike run like you describe.
Plus if your confident enough the strip and rejet your carbs then your more than capable enough to balance them

Carb balancing is something i've never had to do. All my bikes have been either single pot 2 strokes or fuel injection. I had a look in my Haynes manual but it might as well have been in a foreign language. Are there any special tools i'd need for doing the job and a set of figures to work to?
