I Have a 1993 NC30 Jap import. Is this restricted in any way? If so how do you tell and how do you convert it?
cheers

erm, chances are it will be,

however, i have an HRC CDi on mine that allows it to rev freely up to 15.5k RPM
where the jap imports rev upto 14.5k RPM

also i think there restricted speed wise, and i guess your best bet it get on the motorway and i think the speed limit is 80mph? or maybe 120kph? i cant remember.

I'm confused about this Ricky. I think there is only a speed restriction , Not sure about the rev limiter. All I do is fit a motrax blue convertor so it doesn't hit the kph limit!

I'd be interested if this is wrong!

various ways around it ranging from removing the tab inside the speedo (tricky and takes time), finding a m-max or similar box on ebay (prices vary), an ignitech cdi (very trick but pricey) or a simple plug-in resistor from Rick Oliver on here. The latter is the cheapest and easiest.

as for redlning beyond 14.5, the stock cdi/rev counter over read from my experience. I dialled out the innaccuracies using a laptop and the ignitech and settled for setting mine at 14.5 after reading that the power dips off before then anyway.

From what I remember Rick you just have the de-restrictor box, this doesn't change the RPM's on the bike as the rev limit is controlled by software in the ECU

The only restriction on the JDM model is top-speed, these are limited to 180km/h (112mph) if you get to 180km/h and the speed stops dead then it still has the restrictor in place.. if it goes a little bit faster (120 - 130) depending on bike then it isnt restricted.

the standard jap CDI is limited to 14.5k RPM, where as and new CDi or HRC, Ignitech ones raise the RPM and extra 1000RPM,

EDIT: what i mean is the HRC plug in unit which goes inline with the original standard CDI

also i think this removes the speed limitation,

i also have the blue motrax conversion on my clock, and its relitivly accurate. - 5mph for safety ;)

i have a Grey import, and with the HRC out it disables 15.5k but not 100% on the speed,

all thats is needed is a 2.2k Ohm resistor on the Orange with blue stripey cable to an ignition live so when you strike it up the limitation is REMOVED ;)

oh and it costs 21p from maplin

I can assure you that you don't have an HRC CDI, but probably an HRC deristrictor box. The difference is: One is virtually non-existent, and the other is common but goes for non-existent prices

The HRC deristrictor box allows for full speed, but doesn't increase the rev range (why would you want to!).

sorry i wrote that out wrong, i have the HRC box plugged into my Standard CDI, and it does increase RPM, when removed my bike only goes to 14.5K RPM, with the HRC plugged in the RPM goes to 15.5K RPM,

if this isnt normal then fine but im only stating what mine does.
