hi guy
while i have the engine out of my nc24 replacing the exhaust i want to check the valve clearances, can anyone give me a rough step by step guid to doing this of a 24 and how to adjust them if they are out i understand they are on a locknut adjustment rather than shims,

Yep there easy to adjust.

Follow the NC30 adjustment guide partly.

You need to turn the timing marker differently as it fires 180 and not 360 so the NC30 timing settings are wrong.

Measure the clearance between the cam and the rocker, if it is out of spec use a spanner to undo the locknut and turn the flat screw in the middle, I think it is a 10mm spanner. Re-check the valve clearance after adjusting as it is easy to move the clearance when tightening the lock nut back up unless you hold the adjuster inplace with a screwdriver.

If you remove the little timing screw on the clutch cover case you'll see the timing mark on the inside of the screw, it is a little marker.

This bits from memory so it might not be right..(you'll soon know if you can't measure the other one..) rotate the crank (clockwise!!) until intake lobe for #3 cylinder is at maximum lift.. check clearances for Intake #1

Rotate clockwise again until intake lobe on #1 is at maximum lift and check #3 cylinder.

Do the same for #1, #3 exhaust cam and #2, #4 intake cam.
