Not sure if there's a bit of a blow on the exhaust though. What do you guys think?

Sounds ok, can't really tell the sound of the exhaust from the video, where do you think that it is blowing from?

DIC can... dont' see many of those over here.

Had another look with the wife after she got in from work. It looks like it is blowing from the two home-made adaptors used to connect the stainless front pipes to the collector (ovbiously the stainless pipes were too short to fit the OE collector box). The collector itself looks salvageable, which is something, and the rear pipes into the collector only have a bit of surface rust on. Hopefully I can just fab up some new adaptor sleeves.

All of that looks like Factory Honda stuff to me. Collectorbox and downpipes look like standard parts. Thats how they look... front pipes are standard

That is how the collector looks... but it has rusted pretty bad.

You might have to cut the pipes off the collectorbox and weld new stubs on for the downpipes to go into.

If you start tapping it with a hammer you'll probably find it'll drop to pieces.

I can't see it being OE tbh, the front pipes are stainless but the rear pipes are mild

Yes thats how they came.

Look in that picture I posted above.. Same downpipes as yours. And mine, and every other NC i've worked on.

The front ones take a lot of shit from the road.

neo is right as always they made them like that, thats why alot of 24's are being broken and not repaired or restored like the 30's the rears are as rare as hens teeth and a pain to fit as its engine out to do it

Which means most parts are ten a plenty apart from the major failure points.

Plus the bikes arn't as desireable as the 30 to collectors.

Therefor its quite easy to invest lots of money getting one upto scratch to find out it isn't worth anything.

Just seems to me an odd thing for Honda to do fitting stainless on one bank and mild on the other

Anyway, good news is I got the collector off in one piece and it doesn't look too bad





It needs a bit of cleaning up around the inlet ports but with a bit of careful restoration I think it will be serviceable for a while yet. I'll get a mate to knock up a couple of mild steel ones anyway and I'll get them powder coated as spares.

The bad news is the rear headers have lost a bit in length where they have rusted away on the joint to the collector.



I'm hoping that I can do a makeshift repair for now with a couple of sleeves. I'll need to clean up those ends first though. It's a shame I don't have a spare pair to use as a pattern for my mate to knock some of those up too.

One thing that has really surprised me is the wieght of the DIC can and link pipe. The whole thing weighs about half what my MOTAD slip-on for the FZ weighs



Just needs a clean up with the Autosol and it'll be pretty damned sparkling

That's the beauty of alloy systems, Daishin (aka DIC) and Sansei made them for NC's, maybe others.
