I've been thinking that due to the cost of replacement paper panel filters for the NC24, around the £30 mark, I may look at a foam panel modification on my old filter. This would involve removing the paper elements and creating a retaining frame for the foam.

I'm looking at special polyeurethane foam (for oil wetting) and should be able to get several different grades of density. I'm hoping to get a sample or two of each grade to see which works best.

If this is sucessful, would anyone else be interested in this conversion? It should be cheaper than a new paper filter and not restricted to just the NC24, I should be able to do it with almost any paper element filter within a cage. I've not seen any aftermarket foam filters for the NC21 or NC24 but those I have seen for other VFRs are horrendously expensive.

It's a very bad idea.

You can get K&N type and foam for the NC30.

Changing the airflow seriously screws the bike up.

You need to either put huge jets in and iron out lots of flat spots or mess with your air jets.

Not so bad on the NC24.

But for the price of it, £20 for a filter that'll last 20,000km it's not the end of the world

Becuase they make the bike run so bad.. the standard air-filters really good for the bike.

They were designed to make 59ps (60bhp) and that they do in standard form!

I've got foam in my bike and it runs great. My graphs show a gain in BHP (albeit less than 1BHP) and air/fuel is near bob on. Makes a lovely induction noise when shes cranked open too. On the negative side, jetting to suit can be a painstakingly tedious job.

Plenty of people do run foam on here, just not a drop in and go mod.. takes some setting up!

running K&N in my NC30 and it's seems about spot on after a dyno run!
