Ignitech connection issues

Right ive got one of the older CDI's with the 9pin serial connection and not the USB one. Problem is i dont have a laptop with a 9 pin connection, only USB. Ive got one of those usb to serial adaptors but cant find the driver disk and its not branded so cant find a driver to download.

My question is is it possible to connect to the CDI's using the adaptor or shall i bin the idea and find a laptop with a serial connection. I know from experience the early PC3's with serial connection were a nightmare to get working with a USB laptop, possible but i pain in the arse and tempremental too.

Haha! Oops. Just the map or is it dead dead?

btw..

I don't trust USB -> Serial though, most of them don't give out enough voltage, so even the ones that connect can result in bad data transmission.

I have an old dell laptop that has a proper serial port on it that I keep around the garage, its useful for internet radio and programming ignitions / other things with serial ports :D
