I have just brought VFR 400 NC24,
how can i find out more details of what it is, from the engine and frame numbers, it seemd to have been imported in 1996
apart from Daivid Silvers and Wemoto, any other places to get parts from, or good bike breakers,
as i need discs front and rear plus pads, and oddly the the large nut that appears to hold the rear spocket carrier on is well and truely gubbed and needs replacing
any info would be much apprieciated

would the NC30 manual, be good enough for the basic stuff on the Nc24? i.e changing rear disc and or spockets etc?

Err.
For the most part it's just an NC24.
Rear disc is straight forward, you can do it the same time as the sprocket.
Slacken the chain, for this loosen the two 12mm pinch bolts at the rear of the swing-arm, then if you look up underneath the rear of the swingarm you'll see the chain adjuster, use a screwdriver / allen key etc to turn it, which wil slacken the chain.
Undo the big nut on the axle (32mm'ish) and remove the wheel from the other-side.
Now remove the cushdrive and sprocket carrier from where you took the big axle nut off, the sprocket just unbolts off this so you can swap it over too.
With the sproket carrier off you'll see the axle shaft, theres a few washers that come off and what not so take note of where they go.
You'll see theres a circlip at the base of the axle, it's under a metal cap, it can be hard to see with all the grease on it, it's only a little easy to remove circlip, once you take this off you can pull the axle out of the bike hub and unbolt / replace the brakedisk.
Re-grease all the hub while it's out and replace the axle.
Shouldn't take long :)
If you give me the frame number.. stamped on the head-stock (i dont need the last two digits) i'll tell you when it was made.
will be from 1986-1988 anyway

Cheers Neosophist,
It should be fun getting the 32mm nut off as somebody has attacked it with either molegrips or stilsons it in a right mess , I suppose buying another one is going to a bit of a caper too,
much obliged

There 30mm btw, and just shy of £10 so not cheap.
PS: lings.com have the nut in for the same price and it is dispatched tomorrow...
