NC30 stalling

Since balancing my carbs ( using digital vernier calipers) I've developed this annoying problem. Everytime I have to downshift to come to a stop, or, if I have to brake harder than normal, the engine stalls.
The idle is perfectly steady at 1.5K although "hangs" a little around 3K when coming down, otherwise she's running lovely all the way to the redline.
Any ideas out there to solve this, it's really bugging me at this stage.

Is it only in gear and with the clutch in? Might be dragging slightly?

It seems like in balancing your carbs you've unbalanced them. How did you balance them using the vernier caliper? Balancing carbs (as I understand it) is all about equalising pressures rather than distances.

as malc has stated, that how i understand it..... do u mean you set the float levels???
it hanging at 3000 before goin back to normal revs is an indication of poorly syncronised carbs or wrongly set pilot screws (to lean) , either readjust these or check pilot (mixture) screws should be 2-1/4 from fully in if its stock intake/exhaust setup
to get around poorly syncronised carbs you can richen up (1/2 turn out) the pilot screws.

Thanks lads,
I suppose I'd have to say I've set the carb butterfly distances without taking equal pressures into account. It's still an improvement over what I had, a completely erratic idle.
My mixture screws are set at 2 turns out. I'm running a 1/2 Ethos system with no other mods. I'll try an extra 1/2 turn out and see if that makes any difference.

yer try 1/2 turn out before adjusting the butterflys, if its idling fine then they shouldnt be far off, hopefully she just wants a it more fuel :) :)
