gsxr400 v gsx400x impulse forks

anyone know if these will fit a gsx400 impulse ? i know the tubes are 38mm but mine are 35mm. apart from that are the yokes and stem the same length ?

Reason i am asking is my forks are in pretty bad shape(although they look ok) and i cant find a direct replacement. I was thinking about a refurb, but works out cheaper to try and source a second hand set that will fit. FYI my frame neck is 160mm top to bottom.

Or...is it posibble to open up the yoke holes from 35mm to 38mm just by spreading them. its not a lot is it 3mm ?

Any help appreciated.

Pete

Hi Pete, I am sure someone with more knowledge than me will be along shortly, but I can't see spreading the yokes 3mm being done.

When you open it up it wont be round any more for a start, no doubt you could have them machined out to 38mm
it depends on how much metal there is, and more important, how much will be left after machining.

I don't think this plan is a goer, get the right forks, or as you say, a front end conversion.

Best of luck, si

cheers si,

think i was grasping at straws with the spreading the yokes a bit

Thing with me is i am always in too much of a hurry, and instead of being patient, i think of the quickest way of doing it - not always the best.

Thanks for the reply.

Pete

Hi Pete,
Link to a list of OE fork/diameters, may be of use-
http://www.ohiocaferacers.com/OCRTubeSizes.pdf
You may find it easyest to get them rechromed as if you do a conversion you will need yokes and most prob wheel and brakes, so the back will then not match the front.
