hey guys just wondering what combinations can you use without shortening/lengthining the chain or adjusting the ride height (essentric chain adjustment)
and what do you find gives a good combination without sacrifising to much speed/acceleration?
nc30 :)
cheers Tim

My road VFR runs standard gearing iirc, but a 14/40 is good for the road too. On the track I use 14/43 as it suits the track (and tends to be the gearing of choice for the racers there too). Neither combination requires a different chain length, but the 14/43 did bring the 18' rear close to the pipes, but I just say that they are a secondary tyre warmer :D

bringing it that far in doesnt change the ride height?

I have the RVF linkage in the road bike so that throws the back up a bit but the track bike is stock and it's fine with that gear ratio.

I currently have 14/40 fitted on my RVF, what sort of top speed can I expect with this setup and a mildy tweeked motor? Does it make a noticeable difference to acceleration? Thanks.

Carlos, I'd expect not much more than 120/25mph. Plenty quick to get you in trouble.

I always run 14/44. I'm just about revving out under the dunlop bridge at Donington. Probably doing about 100mph.
