Gearbox woes

Hi all,

I'm have problems with my nc30...again! Basically it wont go into gear. When i pull the clutch cable in and try and knock it down into first i get a grinding/crunch noise and it feels like it goes in and the bike moves forward slightly but when you up the revs it doesn't pull away. So far i have tried the following.

Changed the clutch plates, making sure i started and ended with friction plates
changed the clutch basket
changed the clutch cable.
replaced all external gearbox parts

Ive started it up with the clutch cover off and the clutch is spinning and when i pull the clutch leaver the clutch appears to move outwards.

Is there anything else i can try or does it sound like the box is knacked??

Cheers

Russ

Does it not go into gear without the engine running?

What happened with it?

Are you happy that the clutch is working? When you pull the lever the plates are pushed apart - this is good.

Why did you replace the clutch? Why the basket? Is the basket definitely seated correctly?

get some pics up dude...

When the engine is off, i can put it into first, it feels like it goes into gear but i can still rotate the back wheel when it's on the paddock stand. I have no problem locating neutral if that make any difference?

Changed the plates 'cos they were worn, but this problem happened before i replaced the clutch. The clutch moves Outwards, Well the retainer plate(?) does, I'll check the actual plates when i go down the garage.

What should i be taking pics of??

Thanks for your help :)

Is the clutch cable adjusted out enough and actuating the push-rod?

Sound like the clutch isn't dis-engaging.

If you get the back wheel up. i.e paddockstand...

put your foot on the gearlever to try for first and crank the starter motor does it slot into first?

Right, just been out to the bike and it appears that the plates are not moving, took a video rather than trying to describe it lol

I couldn't try your suggestions Neosophist as the battery was dead as. I've brought it back with me and i'll leave it on charge for a couple of hours and then go back and try again.

Any ideas why this is happening i re-built the clutch a la the haynes??

Thanks for you help so far

That looks fine to me, plates won't move much, they just slip when the pressure is taken off them.

Try my suggestion of getting it into gear when you charge the battery then try engaging the clutch and seeing what happens :-)

went back up, realised i hadn't put the gear selection/ outer gearbox back together. Anyhoo, started to put it back together and theres no movement in the selector crown thingy, as bellow

Doesn't seam right to me, and thought i would ask here before putting it all back together and turning the engine over.

My technical knowledge is shocking, so I'll use pictures to make it easier for me lol :)

It's this

which goes on here

Like this

But there's very little movement in it as in the video, Is it just stuck halfway between gears??

Thanks for your help this far
