Mine smells of petrol and looks dirty. Can I clean it or do I need to replace it? What sort of Air Filter do you use? How often do you replace them? Wemoto does air filters - any good?
Thanks, Mansie

What bike is it?

I fitted a K&N reusable filter to my Super Four, they're about £30 and because you can clean them, I'll never have to buy another filter again! Oh, and the performance is slightly improved over standard without the need to rejet.

Supposed to renew it every 20000 kilometres. Its a round foam one as picture, not sure if it washable though.

Yes, the bike is a CB400 Four '97 model and the air filter is round, just like in the picture.
Honda part number 17230-MY9-000. I didn't know about the 20000 kms. Thanks.

Is it easy enough to change an air filter? I had a new one installed when I got my bike serviced back in October last year, but would love to fit a K&N if there was a noticeable increase in performance. Is it worth the money or should I wait until this one needs replacing and add the K&N one then?

Well, I rate my K&N. Takes about 10 minute to fit - as you can see in the pic above, there's three nuts that hold the cover in place; whip that off and pull the old filter out. As Hayne's is fond of saying, "Refitting is the reverse of disassembly"!

The part number matches up with the CB500SY 98-2000 air filter if that's any help.

Has anyone got the K&N Part No. as they don't show anything for a 94 SF

HA-4020 is correct, as far as I can remember. I know it's supposed to be suitable from 2000 onwards, but it should fit earlier models too - mine's a 1995 Version R and it fits mine!
