im trying to find some replacement fork springs for my 3tj2/tcat hybrid and keep getting asked if i know what the spring rate is on the standard springs-does anybody know what they are for an 3tj sp ? .ive got a set of freshly rechromed stanchions waiting to go in some freshly painted fork legs with new slider bushes and seals and dont really want to put the 20 year old springs back in.has anybody replaced their springs recently,if so where did you get them from.cheers-steve

I spoke to Richard at Maxton today and ordered a shock for my 1wg/tcat. He was very helpful and confirmed what the Racetech calculator calculated for the front springs my bike...
http://old.racetech.com/evalving/Spring ... bikeid=570
you've obviously got a later model.... but it might give you a pointer as I believe the bikes are much the same weight. I dont know if yours has dampers or cartridge forks mind(I have damper).
Maxton will send you a free spec sheet on your bike anyhow so you can glean a bit there and brace yourself for the cost! ;o)

cheers guys, but i rang maxton day before yesterday and they said that they didnt want to get involved with supplying any fork springs but to ring them back as a last resort.i guess they can supply a spring set to match the forks they revalve to match the reconfigured damping rates based on rider and bike weight.i did understand where thyre coming from,i spose they dont want to sell something that may not work.but if i could tell them or any supplier the spring rate to start with at leastb id have somewhere to start.they do need changing although theyre still within tolerance, they were made for a the jap market not a 13 stone(without leathers boots etc) lump like me.id love to have them revalved but the budget wont stretch to it-the search continues!!!!!

okie pokey dug out a 3tj fzr400rr (model starting 4dx-000101) parts pdf and got the following...
spring free length 346mm
limit <341mm
SPRING RATE 6.5N/mm.......0.65kg/mm
....hang on got the sp manual too! (model starting 3tj-141101)
spring free length 359mm
limit <354mm
SPRING RATE 6.5N/mm.......0.65kg/mm
It should'n be impossible to measure it though I woulda thought.
..I think I know your next question....... yep I can send you a copy if you send us your email.

don't know what the problem is with maxton atm

i got some uprated springs from them a month ago and they were right on the ball (3tj rr) original spring rate is .65Kg/mm, but for my bulk (14st) they recommended .95Kg/mm and they're the dog's,
they were only too willing to help, give em another try, it'll save you a fortune over the racetech,s, maxton were £100 all in, racetech wanted £120 for the springs+vat+postage, ouch
