Regulator/rectifier.....Maybe worth checking the plug connectors to make sure none of the contact pins have gone green, also check the red wire from the reg/rec to make sure it is live, ihad had a break in that wire and had to bypass it..

Re: 3en1 battery not charging
Pull the battery out of the bike and have a look at the liquid level in the cells - if they're low top them up distilled water. If there's a lot paste between the plates then the battery's probably dead.
Charge the battery overnight and put a voltmeter across the terminals next day (with the charger detached) you should get a healthy 12v
Start the engine from the battery - or use jump leads. Then with the engine running put a voltmeter across the terminals, you should get 13-14.5 volts, if you get the same as the when the battery was off the bike then it's the generator.
Rev the engine and if the voltage goes up to 15 or more the reg recs dead.
Also check all the connections are done up and they're clean - the reg/rec is on the frame spar above the swingarm. Put a smear of vaseline on the block connector terminals (you don't need a lot) this helps to keep them from corroding and eaiser to undo).

Re: 3en1 battery not charging
I got to disagree with you Evil, if the bike is charging then it will run with a duff battery, the ignition needs 9 volts to run. I ran mine with a duff battery for about 3 months (due to lack of money to get a new one) I had to bump start mine all the time... I've had a couple of Reg/recs die, one even nearly caught alight, but it was the generator that blew that time, melting the reg.. You could do with a volt meter Ian, if you got one, start the bike on the booster, and check the voltage going to the battery, as Evil says it should be about 14.5 while revving at 4k, If there's no charge at battery check the voltage from the rectifier (red wire)

Re: 3en1 battery not charging
he says the bike started with the jump pack - that would have charged the battery a littl which I imagine the bike ran on until it died.
I'd say the bike isn't getting any charge - so the generator coil has probably gone.
But you need to just check through the system to make sure the generator is the cause and not the symptom of something else.

Re: 3en1 battery not charging
As far as I know you just take off the cover and the coils inside it ... take a picture
Then undo the nuts or screws and fit the new coil.
If they are screws and they're tight use an impact driver to get them out - the last thing you need is to round the screw heads.

Re: 3en1 battery not charging
Put the bike in gear and stick a lump of wood through the wheel above the swingarm - that will lock the engine and you can get the nut off
