I know that i have mentioned this in someone elses post, but i have been out again on the NC30 tonight and i can't believe how fast and smooth it is now. I have only done a few jobs to it but the difference is amazing. Its like a completely different bike. :D

The only engine mods i have done where:

Checked and sorted valve clearances. (some where way out).



Stripped and cleaned the carbs, set 2 of the float levels to the correct height.. they where not far out and carbs where reasonabley clean. I drilled the sliders out to.


Temporarily repaired the leak in the down pipe/link pipe collar.



Syncronised the carbs using carbtune. They where out of sync quite a bit.


What i noticed after the work...

If fires up on virtually no choke, 1/5th maybe. It used to be full choke! and i had to leave it on for 5 minutes, now it's good to go after 1-2 minutes. Very quiet at tick over too.

It pulls very cleanly and super smooth, no problems with low revs in high gears either. Its very noticeable from before the work how well the bike revs.

It feels quicker, the revs seem to climb alot quicker and pulls very strong, the noise it makes is superb. It reminds me of my old SRAD :)

It runs a little cooler.

For such little (ish) work i'm amazed at the results. The bike was no dog beforehand, but now its great.

Gear it at 14/44 and it'll be like a missile.

Those simple things like making sure the carbs are set up and the valves open properly are pretty important to making it run well! Your fuel economy should be better now too, but since it's running better your more likely to drive it harder resulting in less fuel :D

Back on track, those carbs look well clean! Thats my next job, what did you clean them up with?

Lots of clean rags. Can of carb cleaner and a compressor. It's not a tough task, just take your time and follow the manual.

How easy was the carb tune to use, and how much did it cost you?

And how did you accurately measure the float heights, the way in the haynes manual seems a bit hit and miss.

Glad its running so well, i now want to sort mine instead of paying loads of money to get it done!
