MOT regs for NC30's
Hi all,
I'm currently in the middle of a pickle with a garage. I've got two questions;
Is the clutch adjustment rubbing on the top of the clocks an MOT failure? Garage says yes but V4 Power says no.
What would you do if a garage had your bike for 5 or 6 weeks to do carbs and valves and blamed the delay on being unable to source shims on two separate occasions (even though you've given them Rich Oliver's contact details), was very bad at keeping you informed and all the while you had been spending money on petrol for car trips that you would have made more cheaply on the bike, plus you've been paying insurance? They said they'd adjust the bill, but whats reasonable?

Re: MOT regs for NC30's
I don't think that would be a failure as 99% of 30's has the same issue. If it's not rubbing, it's been rubbed away!!
Shims are easy to locate, if not Rick then David Silver would probably have them or Wemoto even.
No real excuse for the delay in my book, unless they don't know what they're doing?!
Big discount for any time over how long they originally said it would take.
Good luck.

I agree with Matt, that can't be an MOT failure, and if they were concerned why didnt they just adjust it, it takes less than a minute. As for the delay if they had it for 2 weeks and were still fucking about i would have taken it out of their! I thik youve been more than fair and they have taken advantage. Get a quote from another garage over the phone and get your garage to beat it by 200quid or whatever your hapy with. To be honest i would have lost faith in them and would be worried about the work they are going to carry out!!
Good luck

I got my MOT done 2 weeks ago and I got an advisory for the clutch adjustment rubbing on the clock plastics.

To add that the shims are generic between loads of bikes - nothing special about them at all.
Adjust your clutch lever to clear the clocks..simple. They don't need to ride it to pass it.
Sounds like they are taking the piss.
When they do swap your shims, ask for your old ones back - If they buy new ones then why can't you have your old ones. Or, more likely, they'll swap them in from a large sotck of second hand they should have and charge you for new ones anyway....
In fact, I'd ask for the check sheet that showed the clearances that were in place and what they have now been set to. You would expect they were all set slap bang in the middle of the tolerance range if you paid money to a garage for it.

Shims, sounds like they don't know what their doing.
Clutch adjuster hitting clocks... advisory / fail... any switchgear etc al is supposed to be 'free' to move.. hitting clocks is not free so it's technically impinging on the steering controls.. even if it is moving the clocks a bit.
Slacken the bolt off the handlebar and move the handlebar towards the tank some more... then if you still need clearnace (doubtly) adjust the clutch bracket down some.
