Right in the next few days im going to attempt to repair a lower panel on my NC30 using Plastex. A lug and 3 cracks on the lower bracket hole need repairing. Ive got a small pack of Plastex with instructions. But just wondered if anybody had any other tips or advice on using it . Do's and Don'ts etc.

Put the powder in the 'v' shape you make after you have filed some of the plastic panel away then use the liquid as the other way they explain is quite hard work to get right

just make sure when you are fixing a broken lug, file bothe edges into a point.
and you dont need to use tonnes, its strong stuff!

I have recently used the stuff for the first time but had many fairing tabs to remake and a few cracks to mend also. I used the method in the video (needle and ball). its not hard with just a little practice and allows you to build it up slowly - for bigger areas I also used the straight powder and then liquid over it. but it helps to make the base layer more controlled using the ball/needle method. Definely place yourself 'upwind' of the stuff as you use it. Its bad and most likely bad for you. Lots of ventilation necessary. Take your time, its easy and works great.

Right, either im a total biff or this is really tricky stuff to use Ive practiced on a spare panel and it never goes off. The instructions arent that clear, do you mix the powder with the liquid or what? the instructions ive got look like a comic book!!

Im trying to repair a lug and the rubber mold does even form correctly, does this stuff have a sell by date??

Have the powder in the little cup thing, get a drop of the liquid in the pippet and drop it onto the powder then pick up the drop . You should have a a good mix of powder and liquid .

the moldable form is really useful for recreating mounting tabs - worth the $15 to get a kit with it. Be sure the water is near boiling and leave it in for a couple minutes - it will be about like silly putty (which I am betting would also work)

Hi Kris, I used a tutorial on here done by the Evilchicken himself - did a search but I can"t find it might be worth dropping him a pm or a quick post in the general discussions area.

rightly or wrongly i make the mix using the needle and ball method. i then squeeze some liquid out so the ball dissolves and the mixture goes wet.
i then sprinkle on some powder, slowly until it is all absorbed

I have use plastech many times and never ad any problems. I always prep the crack with a dremel so you have a good "V". Fill the crack with powder the using the dropper just add some of the liquid - simples

To re cast lugs or larger areas i have use aluminium tape as the 'back stop' to mold to and used the same method as above. if it is a big repaire you will have to build up the material in serveral aplications but has always worked fine for me.

Either way be patient and allow the stuff to dry properly (idealy overnight) before removing tape or starting to sand down. With a bit of patience and practice you should be able to get a really good finish.
