Hi all

Ive been looking around for a replacement rear tyre for my superfour. It has BT45's on at the moment, and I have no complaints with them so Im going to stick with them and just replace the rear.

The ones on wemoto are £80, and there are a couple more for around £75 elsewhere online. But my mate who works at a bike shop tells me that these ones are no good- shorter life and worse grip- because they are taiwanese. He says the ones they have in his shop are more like £100 but they are the proper ones.

So..........

1. Is around £75 as good a price as I will get for a (taiwanese?) rear BT45?
2. Do these taiwanese tyres really wear out sooner and have worse grip? Or is he having me on

Never heard of this taiwanese thing, i thought a bridgestone was a bridgestone? Got bt45's on mine, grip is good.

I think they make the right size in a H or a V rating, I'm not sure which one you'd want.

I wouldn't be shocked if your mate is propogating a rumour deliberately or because it's what he heard his boss tell customers he needs to keep. Bridgestone would lose their market share sharpish if people suddenly started getting duff tyres. People who ride BT45s mostly ride them because they last ages and work fine. If I fitted one to a 400, after getting 10-12k from three in a row, and got 6k... I'd think twice before buying another.

Anyone know what kinda mileage you get out of a BT090? I'm hopefully gonna get a set fitted next week, everyone on here seems to rave about them, but they do say they don't last long, so was just wondering what kinda mileage could be done on them. I'll just be using the bike for commuting etc, no track days or anything like that.

You're getting a BT090 for commuting on?

That's a really stupid idea, it'll be square within 3k.

Unless you ride through the twistiest roads in the Alps on your commute the 090's will go square very quickly. A rear tyre lasted me 3500 miles commuting twisty B roads.

BT45s are enough to scrape the pegs on a CB-1, and last 10-2k on the rear. CB400SF's have less ground clearance (from looking at the pegs) so shouldn't be a problem on that bike. I have lowsided a BT45 on a CB-1, but it took some doing. BT92s inspire more confidence and last around 7-8k on a rear. You can apparently mix that with the 090 front and they'll wear out about the same time, but will have given you more grip on the front. BT92s are the way forward for road riders with sporty aspirations, 090s are really only needed for the track or those with deep pockets (and in which case you wouldn't be riding a CB400)

Pirelli MT75 are the cheapest i've found at about £59 for a rear, should be fine for communting.

Does it matter about whether I get a Radial or a Cross-Ply tyre? Because the only reason I was avoiding tyres like the MT-75 was because they were Cross-Ply, and I thought that the Super Four needed Radial. When I'd been in getting my puncture repaired a month ago the dude said it needed Radials.
