Grinders/polishers tips?

Morning all,

Anyone use a bench grinder as a polisher? What should I look for? Any recommendations on equipment and tips when I get round to it? I've read about the wet and dry approach from 240 grit to 5000000+ lol.
Anybody do it differently?

Thanks
Hadrian

In terms of bench grinders, you'll want a 200 mm .5 hp+ at least. The polishing compounds create a lot of friction which won't work well with a smaller grinder.

I use a fully stitched mop for initial polishing with a brown (medium-hard) compound (that'll even cut through paint and coatings in a few seconds). Then swap to a fabric flap wheel with white (soft) compound to finish it. I'd stay away from those fluffy looking mops. You'll need a tapered spindle so that you can fit the mops to the grinder.
