need a bit of advce im going to change the fork seals on my 94nc30 and was wondering while i have them apart is there any knd of internal changes that can be made to make the bike a bit more suited to me, ie heavyer grade of fork oil or dfferent springs etc i weigh 13 and a half stone and i imagine this bike is more suited to lighter people. im thinking of some changes to the rear suspention aswell for the same reasons the rear shock is a later model one if that helps. all help welcome

you've answered your own question there mate, heavier oil and springs to suit your weight will make the world of difference, check the bushes while your there. If your feeling flush racetech do replacement valves.

i dont mind spending a few quid when needed but i have a lot of work to do on this bike before it comes back out so trying to keep costs down. does replacing the springs make that much diffence?

Replacing the springs is the major factor in tuning the forks to your weight.

Light person = low rate springs

Heavy person = high rate springs.

Springs are rated in Nm - Newton Metres or compressive force. 6 would be really soft and 10 would be really hard. Most modern road bikes run around an 8 or 8.5 i think.

I am 13 1/2 stone and changing the springs and oil made a massive difference.

Before the bike flopped into corners and the front felt very vague, it now feels completely different and there is so much more feedback from the front. I would recommend this as one of the first mods to an old bike, and whilst you have got them apart you might as well do the bushings as well.

get one of Rick Olivers spring sets (stiffer/longer springs with shorter spacers) which comes with everything you need including oil for @ £80. Worth every penny and will transform your bike.

Don't forget some new oil seals at the same time

Is this for the NC30 only? and does the NC30 shock fit the NC35? I think my NC35 needs a rear shock replacement but I don't have the cash for one of those Nice race shocks... so looking for a reasonable solution...

Search on here for Rick Oliver and send him an e-mail, he will sort you out. Not sure if they are the same for the 35, only got 30s but again ask Rick he will let you know (and may have different ones for the 35 if they need it).

As for the rear - how deep are your pockets and how far do you want to go. You can look at refurbishing the existing shock, replacing it with an alternative eg RS250 etc or going down the Nitron, White Power, Ohlins route. Take your pick and spend your money.
