NC23 ENGINE REBUILD OR REPLACE

Hello All,
I've recently picked up a very well restored NC23 which has enjoyed a full rebuild from the ground up save for the engine which has done 50k miles and sounds pretty rough.
It runs fine but at tickover has a very bad rattle/ knocking that reduces if not disappears above 2k rpm. No oil contamination or chunks of metal when drained, no smoke from the exhaust just the noise.
I'm trying to weigh up the best route to go:
1) A rebuild - Does anyone out there have knowledge of doing a full rebuild or can they point me in the direction of a garage that has genuine experience of rebuilding these engines. I'm looking for someone to take the job on.
2) Replacement - There's a few lower mileage engines knocking around on e-bay etc which would of course be a straight swap for mine. A cheaper option as I can sell my engine for parts and this will help to pay for the replacement, but am I buying any better than what I already have? Bit of a gamble really but it could pay off..
Does anyone have experience of either rebuilds or replacing these engines as i'm undecided on what way to go.
Cheers,
Chris.
