Got a question for you knowledgable people out there. When was the nc30 first released for sale anywhere in the world? I need the earliest date that the bike came out. Also, did the major bike components remain unchanged for every year of the NC30? Thanks in advance for your time

The honda press release is dated 6/12/1988:

Translated from here:

Yes, all major components remained unchanged. Not sure if rear shock is classed as a 'major component' but it was changed for the 1990 year model onwards.

The front forks were also changed between the later models, aswell as the rear shock.

Thanks for the reply guys. Now the other thing I need to know is, did the external appearance of the forks change between the early and late models or do they roughly look the same just with different internals? The reason I'm asking these questions is because I race my bike in a historic club and the cut off date for one class is end of December 1989. This is the prefered class to race in as the next class has more modern bikes. My bike was built in 1991, but if I can prove that the bike was released before December 1989 and no major changes have occured since the release, I can race in the earlier class.

Yes there were external changes to the forks.
1989 models are different to the later models in quite a few details.
An nc30 trainspotter will easily be able to tell that your late model bike is not an 89 model... hopefully there's none around your way!

You could always fit 89 forks, or claim ingnorance :D

The main deal with the club is you can fit later model parts as long as they "look like" early model parts. So you can't fit upside down forks obviously, but if the late model nc30 forks look similar to early model nc30 forks there is no problem. At the moment there is a crack down on guys that have fitted wave rotors and non standard shape boby work. You can fit any type of brake rotor as long as they are standard looking, so I assume you can use EBC and other aftermarket "round" rotors.

...an ohlins shock would look similar to the original if you paint the spring red!
