I havent had my NC29 very long and its the first time I've ever done any real maintenance on a bike. (My 125 was brand new) Anyway, the bike was sitting for two years with the last owner and I have no service history. The bike runs great but Im gonna change fluids etc to make sure its tip top. I've got my oil, filter and tools to do an oil and filter change as it seems simple to me apart from removing the fairing. My Haynes says I need to remove both side panels before I can remove the lower panels but people I've spoken to say the lower panels will come away without removing the upper panels. Just wondering if someone can give me an idiots guide to removing fairings before I get started?

You do need to remove the upper panels as there is a mounting bolt hidden away underneath the upper fairing. Remove as haynes says and you shouldnt go far wrong

the only way the lowers come off with uppers still on is by ripping the buggers off!!

remove uppers 1st, then lowers. they are ALL interlocked.

i dont remove any panels for my oil change...
i DO put a rag in to soak up any oil that gets in the belly pan.
only need socket for sump plug. no tools for oil filter

I'd rather get the fairing off for an oil change and I'm changing the filter too. The whole bike looks like its long over due a good clean so getting the fairing off and doing that too can't be a bad thing!

I've got plenty of sockets already, replacement washer and filter adapter.
