i'm trying to do the head bearings on my bike at the minute but am having a few problems with the bottom race on the yoke.

has anyone any tips to help remove it, is it easier to just cut it off or should it be hammered back up the stem ?

I usually cut the bottom inner race off the stem. Carefully....very carefully.

Heat the new race until it's about 300 degrees and drop it on to the stem. Should slide right down no force required.

Might be a bit crude, but I've always used a big thick flat-head, a vice and a hammer. Never had an issue what way.

the whole bottom yoke ?

stick the whole lower yoke stem stuck bearing in the freezer for 1/2 hour then heat just the bearing and it will tap off easy

just get the tiny small cutter blade on the dremel and it comes off like a piece of piss. cut it, then hammer a flat headed screw driver into the cut and bend the old lower race off the yoke.

tried to cut it - bought nnew blades and they just didn't work,i'd still be sawing now !

went to stick it in the freezer - missus caught me red handed,told me to get a freezer for the garage if i wanted to try that

had the oven on ready - she clocked the oven on when she caught me with the freezer door open,had to make dinner that night.

bought a new rubber mallet and beat 10 bells out of the race - it slid up and off the stem no bother - but my wrist is fucking killing me now and thats two days ago... ......cheers for that Mrs Patteron you cunt!........

so now i have to wait till the bride is out before i can heat the new one up to slide it on,should i be careful not to over heat it ? as in will it warp it it's too hot ?

boiling water usually helps me make things fit.
plus you get to make a brew at the same time
