i would recommend buying a manual as it has all the info you need.......
you will need a set of vacuum guages for the synchronisation of the carbs.the screws for adjusting are on the underside of the carbs so a flexi screwdriver is handy :D :D

It's probably eaisier to take the carbs off (yes easier!) and physically synchronise the throttle butterflys unless you already have the equipment and patience to do them properly. Synching like this gives just as good results.

A Haynes manual is a must for stuff like this.

i did them by eye ,as rick oliver told me how,and to be honest it runs fine now,it's close enough to work but not as far out to matter but if you find taking the carbs off a hassle or a difficulty give it to a shop

I've just done my valve clearances and stripped the carbs and gave them a good clean. Carb sync is next on my list. I bought a carbtune sync, so i will let you know how i get one with the job.

The manual method basically invloves setting the butterflies to the same clearence all round. A small diameter drill bit does the job between the bore and the butterfly. There are also a couple of marks in the bore that you can line each of the butterflies up with. There were a few posts on the old forum detailing the method.

Ok, after doing my valve clearances i got round to syncronising my carbs. I used the carbtube 2 with the bylon adapters. I also got hold of the 90 degree screwdriver which helped alot.

Initially i wished i had bought the brass adapters as the nylon ones where a little hard work to screw into the head. But i think nylon are a safer bet of not cross threading the adapter in the tapped holes in the head.

So bike up to temp, all adapters screwed in.. carbtune linked up... this is what i got..



As you can see.. 1 and 3 are not far from being matched together and 2 and four are close ish... anyway the haynes manual guides you through the procedure. Basically you match 1 and 3.. then 2 and 4. Then you match 1 and 3 with 2 and 4. It takes a little getting used to but you soon bet there.

I had to adjust the tick over but i noticed the bike running more evenly at tick over. When i took it out on the road it felt ALOT smoother, now i donn't know if that is down to the syncronising itself or also down to the valve clearances and carb clean that i under took, or even repairing the hole between the headers and collars. I will say this though, when i opened it up on a clear road it shifted from 50-90 like it never ever used to.
