Ok following Haynes guide, im lining up the T with the grooves on the hole. The in and ex are in line with the top of the cam cover. Cylinder 4 is TDC. Theres no gap on any of the valves? Should the feeler gauge slide all the way through? Not sure what im doing wrong here?
The engine is a runner, its the one off my track bike.
Chris.

Are you sure you have the timing right? Are the cam lobes pointin away from the head?
Pics would be the law dude.
Basically, you want the feeler gauge on top of the little shim, between the rocker end and the top of the valve (if it is anything like a '30)
What about any of the others - any with a cam lobe away from the rocker should allow you some feeler clearance

Will have another look over the weekend Mark and get some pics. So will the pointy end of the lobe be facing the exact opposite way to the follower?

No - prob about 8 O'clock or 4 O'Clock
Have you read the Viper Biker guide for NC3* - I reckon it is much of the same animal.
Good luck mate

Well after getting the TDC the correct way round i have now measured my clearances

Is it possible that all of them could be out? They are all too tight, most averagring around the .006 mark! Should be 0.15 inlet or 0.2 exhaust average according to Haynes.

Is it difficult to start ....
Seen this many times - my advice is pull it apart now - normally find the valve face is dished i.e. being pulled through the seat - closing up the gap.
If stuck - give me a call sometime.
Cheers

Think it did take a bit longer to start compared to my road nc29, always did start though. When you say the valve face Greame, do you mean the follower? The only terminoligy i have is via Mr Haynes.
Chris.

Think he means the actual sealing end of the valve - think of it as being pulled through the head towards the camshaft..
Yowser!

Oooo eck, if the picture my minds making of this is right, then thats pretty bad right? lol.
Can only imagine what could happen there. I better take it apart to have a check like Greame says i suppose.
