What mods are needed to an rvf engine to get the nc30 cdi working?

My seat of the pants dyno tells me that the nc30 unit is superior in engine response and overall performance to the standard nc35 unit (build quality aside!).

I've always felt that the nc30 engine/cdi is a much more 'raw' combo. Maybe the nc35 cdi contributes (along with carbs and other small changes etc) to the reduced top end power compared to an nc30? I've had hrc nc35 cdi units and I still feel that they lack something compared the standard nc30 item. Let alone an unobtanium (read: virtually doesn't exist!) nc30 hrc cdi unit...


Obviously a fully tuneable cdi is the way to go, but will an nc30 ignition unit improve nc35 engine performance?

I have an NC30 CDI & carbs fitted to our track NC35.

You need to replace the NC35 pickup with the NC30 pickups[0].
Replace the NC35 starter clutch with the NC30 starter clutch[1].
Replace the NC35 tacho with the NC30 one[2].
Use the NC30 wiring loom.

As to how effective it is, dunno. The track bike is certainly more 'raw' than a stock NC35 but its also got a cut down airbox, total-loss, modified exhaust and who knows what inside.

[0] Or it might be replace the NC35 pickups with the NC30 pickup, one has two, the other has one
[1] I'm not 100% sure if this *needs* to be done but it was on ours.
[2] The mechanism is identical but the electrics are different, you can just split open the NC30 case, remove the tacho and fit it into the NC35 shells (its rather harder the otherway round). The dial looks *very* slightly different but IMO I prefer the look to the NC30 tacho dial anyway.
