My brake lights don't work. Rear lights are fine but nothing when either the brake lever/pedal is pressed. I am missing one indicator at the moment (completely removed from the bike) and I am hoping that's the reason why they're not working. Although, common sense tells me otherwise.

What I have done so far...

Checked bulbs (back lights work fine and both filaments look healthy)
Checked fuses
Checked continuity of front switch (there is continuity when front brake lever is pressed in)
Checked voltage is present at rear light
Checked voltage is present at wires that connect to front brake light lever switch (although both appear to be live I connected multimeter to earth and then the probe to each crimp terminal on turn and they both displayed 11 odd volts)
Checked voltage at rear block connector
Checked continuity at rear brake switch (appears continuous . Seems to make no difference whether I depress the pedal or not, there is continuity there)

Any ideas?

Really just starting to learn about electrics so things like wiring diagrams while useful still frickin' baffle me.

About the bulb, just TRY a new one for the sake of a few pennies, I've had bulbs that look ok but strangly just don't work!
Have you checked all the earths and connections for the holders etc for water, corrorsion etc?

I am pretty sure it's connected right as it's mainly choccy block connectors that only go one way. I have sprayed any and every connector I can find with wd40 and have been wondering whether to just get some bulbs. Do Halfrods stock bulbs suitable for an NC30?

I am guessing form the manual that there is one perm live that is for both the rear lights themselves and the brake lights? I did check the holders and checked continuity between each of the three wires coming from the light cluster. Didn't check the earths specifically though. Poor earth would seem likely now ya mention it.

Tried some bulbs I had lying around. These weren't new but have never been used and just stored for a year or two from when I had a VFR before. Same problem. Rear lights up fine both bulbs but nothing from the brake light when pedal/lever is pressed... grrrr.

Check the spade connectors on the tail cluster lights themselves. They act as grounds. I learned this cus one of mine is a bit loose so can come off and knock out one of the lights getting brighter when your levers get pulled.

erm, if you have continuity all the time in your pedal switch doesn't that mean that your brake lights are permanently on? Do they go off if you disconnect the switch? If so, I'd see about adjusting or replacing the switch...

You were right... the switch needed adjusting. Should have worked it out from the continuity but was being thick lol. Thanks for ya replies/suggestions people, and thanks for solving the mystery imjh!

Yeah, good work, old son!! Glad you picked up on what I had so obviously missed. Continuity was a big clue.
