i have just been offered a 160/60zr18 tyre from a customer at work as a 'thank you' for all for my help! strange gift but he does not need it, i need a legal tyre and its free!

as this is 160/60 not 160/50 is this going to throw my speedo out? i have a feeling it will but am wondering does anyone know by how much?

when i get her all mot'd i will take her out along with a sat nav to get a fairly accurate idea that my speedo is correct ( as i now have a 99' fireblade speedo on her ) but she wil need mot'ing first to be all pucka & legal. just wondering if i am going to be adding to my woes by using this size?

I ran a 160/60 17 on my VFR with an RVF linkage and it had no noticable change in speedo correlation.

i didnt think it would cause a huge difference, as change in size is nominal but if i was to ask this would be the best place to ask! replaced the standard 15" alloys on the wifes 206 years back for 17" and that only threw the speedo out by about 3mph and that was at 70mph, so under that speedo the difference was again not noticable.

i have just had a thought though!, i have not seen this tyre yet, i know it is road legal nearly 4.5mm tread on it but he didnt mention brand. I try not to mix tyres front and rear, but if this will get me threw an mot until i have the funds for a matched pair i will try it, may not be to bad.

theres no mot issues with mixed tyre manufacturers on a bike.....is there? on a car as i have always understood it and done a quick search on the dvla site you can have four different tyres from four different manufacturers so logn as they are all the same tyre i.e radial, and are the same size.

bikes arent different are they?

Did you mean 150/60 rather than 160/50, as the latter is the correct size; not even sure a 160/50 exists for the NC!?
Some people use a taller (70) front, but as Viper said it wont make much difference; a wider rear tyre certainly wont!

Nope.

For bikes the really isn't much tyres can fail on apart from being 'knackered'

I'm currently running a 160/60-18 Avon Storm and have noticed no difference in the speedo. Just not as sticky as the Bridgestone BT or Dunlop alpha's but will probably last a lot longer
