I have just acquired an adjustable Showa rear shock for the NC30. Anyone know how to get the spring off it?

Thanks

You need a spring compressor or some brute force and ratchet straps....
it can be done, but I'd take it to someone welse and get them to do it if I didn't have the tools

+1 on that ^. without the right tools your end up throwing it out the garage after smashing your knuckles to bits

Thanks for the reply, I have now got the spring off it, no dramas, just needed a bit of care  .

I thought it had adjustable damping but no, it has a remote adjuster for the preload on the spring, anyone had any experience of one of these? Are they reliable, I do not want to find the preload sagging after a week!

The bad news is the damper is knackered, who's best for showa damper rebuilds?

I am guessing it is a VFR suspension unit, the only id. on it is "MLO 003", does that mean anything to anyone?

It does ;)

It's for a VFR400R NC21/NC24

ML0 is the honda PCN for the NC21/24 VFR400R

List of PCN's there if you want to know different PCN's :)

NC30 specific stuff is MR8

Same as that yea?

It's a decent shock, the preload adjustment works well.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is one of those and I paid alot less :P

I am now not too sure what to do with it, I like the idea of the remote preload adjustment, I might try to adapt it to fit the standard shock.

A lot of the VFR750/800's use a very similar shock... as per the one below.

(even same adjuster handle :P)

Anyway.

It should just bolt in? try it? :)
