Hi all just bought a tri arm the other day, the bike rode home fine, and for a few days, went to start it after being out for a short run and it would nt start, so I charged the batterie and the bike started straight off, so I took the bike to work today the bike started and rode great, and started for the ride home but when riding home I pulled up at the lights and it cut out and I had to bump it to get it going, I ve had a few 400 s now and in the past the rectifier has played up, has any one got any ideas how to help with the problem?

Sometimes the reg/rec gets overheated, which increases the resistance so that if it cuts out or you try to start it when it is hot, it won't go. I suspect that rather than benefitting from a charged battery, what actually made the difference was having the chance for the reg/rec to cool down.

Have a look at the reg/rec for signs of overheating. Also check the pickups - do that a number of times over the course of a couple of hours. I had a problem with the reg/rec AND the pickups but only found one after I'd solved the other as it was being "masked".

Thought it might be the rectifier, where abouts are the pick ups and how would you check them, sorry I am a bit thick when it comes to electrics
