this might be a daft idea and feel free to flame on, but i was pondering on putting a magnet on the bottom of my fuel tank. reason being my particular steed is 22 years old and when empty the tank sounds like a pair of maraccas with all the rust inside it, and a magnet placed away from the strainer might stop it getting blocked? yes/no/indifferent/shut up baldy?

Pointless really. If you have a rust issue with your tank then get it treated, if there's a little bit of debris in the tank then it'll not get to the tap as you're a mesh that protects the tap. Pointless exercise if you ask me (unless you are talking about an NC21/24 were I've no idea how the tap is configured)

nc 24. there's a mesh strainer (that refuses to come out :x ) which filters the fuel to the tap.
just concerned it'l get blocked, either eventually or when fuel level is low?

how do tanks get treated? externally its fine.

The mesh strainer should come out easily as its just flexible plastic. stick a small screwdriver down the side of it and it should prise out ok. As for the rust theres lots of treatments and potions you can use, POR15,flowliner ect.

I thought the NC24 was like the RC24 with the tap in the side of the tank and the filter(s) impossible to remove from the tank, same reason you can't ever use any tank sealer on it...

Na mate the filter comes out from the bottom of the tank easy. The tap is bolted onto the bottom as well but the bit you turn goes through the side of the tank.
I use blue hylomar to seal it up.

Ah, the RC24 is a right royal pain in comparison.
