GK73a Downpipes

Hi all,

Thought this info might be of use.
I've just bought a basket case GK73a with the twin pipes and a damaged motor! However the collector box was rotten and although I can get one made I thought I'd give the single pipe set up a go. I was aware that the Bandit downpipes require mods to the sump etc so had a look on fleabay for alternatives. I came across a set from an RF400 (didn't even know they existed) that came from an engine that was also for sale. The engine was identical to the GK73a (even down to the deformed sump!)so I bought the pipes (£47 all in). They fit perfectly and allow me to bolt the spare link pipe and race can that I have for my GK76a straight on with no issues. The engine runs fine and thanks to Chris on this forum the "0" rings in the carbs now do their job and dont pee petrol out everywhere. The only thing that may need modifying is the belly pan (be a while before I get that far though). The forward throw on the downpipes is slightly larger but the rad drops in and all the clearances appear to be ok.

Hope this helps someone

Craig
