Is it possible to remove the rear shock without taking the exhaust off?I have a nice Maxton shock I need removing before the bike is sold and it seems impossible without taking the exhaust off,which I would prefer not to do.

i managed to fit my nitron with half the exhaust on, as it was an ethos system.
but tried removing a shock with a std system on....system still hanging up im my garage, but the bike isnt...lol

gonna have to bite the bullet then,eh.Best get a good price for the shock to pay for the new gaskets and extra hard work

IIRC it depends on which way the bolts were put in, dunno about the NC30 but ISTR on the NC35 it's possible if the shock[1] bolt was put in from the wrong side.

Then again it might just be possible on the NC35 anyway, I don't recall removing the exhaust when I swapped shocks on our NC35 but it was some time ago! I certainly could *fit* a shock to an NC35 (with an NC30 exhaust) but one of the bolts had to be fitted the wrong way round.

Still, you may as well attempt it without removing the exhaust, if it turns out impossible you've not lost anything, if you need to remove the exhaust it's just £5 worth of gaskets. May as well first see if you can get enough room by unbolting the silencer and moving it slightly.

that's assuming you don't snap one of the buggers when removing them.

i was able to remove my old shock and replace it with a nitron one without having to touch the exhaust system.

its a bit of a fiddle, and some bricks to hold up the swing arm helps, and you have to put a bolt back in the wrong way round (it doesn't actually make any difference).

However its a bit of a fiddle, but i really dont want to be trying to take off exhaust head bolts!

that will often end in despair of doom and darkness, followed by much swearing! :D

Haynes gives you 2 options of removing the shock, with the exhaust in place or not. So it must be possible.
