I have just taken my bike in to the local garage and got new a chain and sprockets. when i got it the chain was nice and tight and at the required tension. I have just taken it out tonight and ridden around 40miles and my chain is slacker than a Prostitutes bits!! Is this normal or should i take it back?? i seem to remember they do stretch a bit when new but at this rate im going to be going through chains at a rate of knots!!

Check the bolt in the swinging arm that clamps the adjuster has been tightened up properly, if not the chain will work itself loose.

truly depends on the make, type and how you were riding it mate.

e.g. i have 2x XL125V's one had a standard honda one and the other a DID once it got to it. the honda stretched so much i was adjusting it every 4-5 days, now with the DID one i adjust it once every 10-14 days, but lube it reguarly.


but if its a new chain and you are giving it the beans then that does tend to kill em quicker.

just ride it for a bit and lube the chain when you get it home as the chains warmer and lube will absorb into the links better, and o rings

Chains do tend to stretch and need adjustment for the first few hundred miles or so.....completely normal in my experience
